The spiritual acumen and enlightened wisdom of seer-sage Pandit Shriram Sharma Acharya had a reach into the deepest depth of human mind and emotional core. He could feel the agony of the masses through heart. He could therefore identify the root cause of the ailing state of the world today as – the crisis of faith, people’s ignorance of the powers of the inner self,  and the lack of righteous attitude that have evaporated the oceans of joy from people’s life and polluted it with ever increasing insecurities, infirmities and complexities. Realizing the hidden power of thoughts, quite relevant in the present era of intellectual evolution, he pioneered the Mission of Thought Transformation, Dissemination of Scientific Spirituality and Social and Cultural Reformation and Elevation with collective participation of awakened souls. “All World Gayatri Pariwar” was propounded by him to accomplish this noble goal with collective participation of altruistic talents and duty-bound people from all walks of life and all parts of the world. The basic tenets of the Mission include: Rise of divinity in human beings and heavenly atmosphere on earth Individual, familial and societal refinement Healthy body, pure mind and civilized society Atmavat sarvabhooteshu (all living beings are soulkins), Vashudhaiv kutumbkam (Entire earth is our family)  One nation, one language, one religion, one government Everyone should get equal opportunity for self-growth irrespective of caste, creed, color, religion, region, language To achieve the above goals, Pandit Shriram Sharma Acharya (Gurudev) started the Global Movement for Transformation of Thoughts. Some of the tools and techniques of this movement include: Three Means of Spiritual Awakening: (1) Upasana (Contemplating on divine virtues); (2) Sadhana (Practicing self-control for acquiring divine virtues); (3) Aradhana (Using acquired resources for the welfare of the society) Propagation of Gayatri (collective wisdom) and Yagna (cooperative virtuous demeanor) Yoga, Meditation and Alternate Healing Huge volume of constructive thoughts on every aspect of human life written by Gurudev (equivalent to 100,000 pages of encyclopedia Britannica size books) Three pronged approach: (1) Advertising campaign: To send the message of ‘Ushering in of New Era’ to the masses; (2) Creative campaign: To get active cooperation of intelligentsia in the process of new creation; (3) Combative campaign: To overcome the obstacles coming in the way of achievement of our aim. He successfully practiced and mastered the highest kinds of sadhanas of Gayatri and Savitri. He also practiced higher-level Sadhana on the arduous heights of Himalayas several times and had established enliven contact with Rishis of Himalayas. His volumes on Gayatri Mahavigyan stand as most authentic and comprehensive treatise on the philosophy and science of the great Gayatri Mantra. He initiated programmes of spiritual and intellectual refinement of millions of people without any discrimination of religion, caste, creed, sex, or social status. To, My Soul-Descendents – My Disciples Last Message – Rev. Gurudev Sajal Shraddha – Prakhar Pragya Dedicated Freedom Fighter Acharya Sharma was a dedicated freedom fighter who had sincerely participated in the movement of India’s independence. He did not accept any award or citation in his life-time. In 1992, the Govt. of India had released a postal stamp in his honour posthumously. Founder of Vichar Kranti Abhiyan – Movement for Revolutionizing the Thoughts (Creation of Enlightening Literature) Realizing the potential of inspiring literature and its relevance in the present era of intellectual evolution, he had chosen writing as the principal mode towards uprooting the evil tendencies and blind faith from people’s minds and arousing the indwelling wisdom, strength and spiritual bliss. He initiated the unique movement of Vichara Kranti with the very first issue of “Akhand Jyoti” in 1939. The first book he wrote was “ Mein Kya Hun?”, an Upanishad level work on the knowledge of Real-self. He wrote about 3000 enlightening books in Hindi on almost all topics concerning human life. Erudite scholars as well as the common literates find rare knowledge, practical guidance and inspiration from his sagacious and lucid writings. He wrote four Pragya Puranas in the style of ancient scriptures but containing the illustrations and stories relevant and useful for global teaching today. Propagation of Vedic Vangmaya in New Light He translated the entire Vedic Vangmaya (4 Vedas, 108 Upanishads, 18 Puranas etc) in Hindi elucidating the tradition, style, universality and history of Vedic Literature. This invaluable contribution to the world of knowledge and human culture was highly acclaimed and appreciated by savants and saints like Dr. S. Radhakrishana and Acharya Vinoba Bhave; the distinguished title of “Vedmurti” was conferred upon him in its recognition. Women’s Ascent and Social Transformation He launched the Yug Nirman Mission for personal, familial and social uplifting. He propagated Women’s Ascent as the foremost necessity for the progressive development of the society and the nation. He encouraged women’s education and equal participation of women in all walks of life. Way back in 1942, he supported establishment of Girls’ intermediate college. He launched several revolutionary programs for women’s progress from the religious platform too. This bears significant impact in the Indian context where religion appears to dominate the convictions and attitudes of the masses. As part of the social reformation programmes of the Yug Nirman Yojna, he had given maximum importance to eradication of blind faith, superstitions and untoward customs and traditions prevailing in the Indian society in the name of religion. Emancipation of the glory of marriage institution from the clutches of the social evils of dowry, child marriages, exploitation of women, etc., were propagated by Acharya Sharma from the religious platform too. A Seer-Sage and Angelic Guru He initiated nearly 24 lac people into Gayatri Sadhana. Miraculous effects of his blessings experienced by people from all parts of the society stand as testimonies to the Supramental achievements (siddhis) of Gayatri. Pioneer of The Revival of the Rishi Culture He pioneered the revival of the Rishi Culture and initiated several constructive programs of mass education. The Early Years The eminent patriot, scholar and founder of the Banaras Hindu University Pt. Madan Mohan Malaviya initiated Sriram in the worship of Gayatri mantra when he was nine years old. On the auspicious day of Vasant Panchami festival, January 18, 1926, a guru by the name of Swami Sarveshvaranandji – a great Himalayan yogi – appeared before him in astral body from the flame of the Dipaka (lamp) during his Gayatri worship. This sparked the revelation of the divine origin and purpose of his life and bestowed upon him with the grace and guidance of his guru. This lamp is lit continuously since then and is enshrined at Shantikunj, Haridwar at Present. The next 24 years of his life were devoted to 24 Mahapurashcharanas –– each consisting of the rhythmic recitation (japa) of 2.4 million Gayatri Mantra with strictest of disciplines. There is no parallel to this kind of sadhana. At the same time, he also whole heartedly participated in the freedom struggle of India under the inspiring guidance of Mahatma Gandhi, while continuing with his altruistic activities for the good of the society and attending to the familial duties. In 1943, he married Bhagwati Devi, and ever since, the saintly couple dedicatedly pursued the noble mission of spiritual up liftment of humankind. Founder of A Global Movement On the completion of the 24 mahapurashcharanas, Pandit Sriram Sharma Acharyaji established Gayatri Tapobhumi at Mathura (India) in 1953. He organized a grand Gayatri Yajna in 1958, which served as a base to launch the Yug Nirman Yojna, a global movement for moral, cultural, intellectual and spiritual refinement and reconstruction. The objectives of this movement are to reform the individual, the family and social values of mankind and to change the current ideologies and concepts of morality and social structure for a better tomorrow. Through various activities at Mathura, including the performance of yagyas on large scale, Acharyaji gathered a team of dedicated men and women. Thus the organisation called “Gayatri Pariwar” was born. The period 1971-1990 witnessed remarkable multifaceted accomplishments of Acharyaji’s life. He climbed the arduous and mystic heights of the Himalayas several times and stayed there for specific sadhanas as per the guidance of his guru. In 1971 he instituted the mission’s headquarters at Shantikunj (Haridwar, India) as an academy for moral and spiritual awakening and training. Here he began revival of ancient spiritual disciplines that were the hallmarks of Indian Culture. Sukshmikarana Sadhana and the Dawn of the New Era During 1984-1986, he carried out the unique spiritual experiment of Sukshmikarana, meaning sublimation of vital force and physical, mental and spiritual energies. He authored a special set of 20 books (termed Revolutionary Literature or Krantidharmi Sahitya) highlighting the future of the world and conveying the message of the dawn of the New Era of Truth during the 21st Century. On 2nd June 1990, he voluntarily shed his physical sheath. Thereafter, his soul mate revered Mata Bhagavati Devi guided the series of Ashwamedha Yagyas, which accelerated the pace of global expansion of the mission during the critical juncture of the decade of change of a millennium and change of an era. She too joined Acharya Sharma in the subliminal domains of divinity after leaving her physical body on the 19th September 1994. The divine light of knowledge and human glory kindled by them continues to illuminate the excelling path of their great mission under the auspices of Shantikunj and promises the ushering in “The Age of Truth” in the years to come. The last message of Gurudev unfolds the divine purpose of his incarnation and also assures us of the bright future. Part of it reads: “The light, of which I have been an instrument, a medium, will not extinguish with my withdrawal from the physical realm. I assure my followers that I will continue living and working with them at Shantikunj and elsewhere in my astral-causal body and guide, help and inspire them in their efforts to lead humanity into the Golden Era of Truth, Light and Immortality. I will finally merge into the Blissful Luminous causal self, after humanity has taken a decisive leap into the cosmic consciousness and attained the light of the New Era of spiritual Unity, Harmony and Peace. My blessings, love and prayer-filled wishes to all. I will always be with them in their selfless and noble endeavours in this divine work.”

The universe comes out of the union of two fundamental forces: matter (jada or ‘that which gives shape’) and consciousness (chetan). The discovery of the powers of Nature, their organization and the skills that make them useful to man is called science. Science can thus be called the unison of matter and consciousness. Science has made possible the progress of the human civilization. It should be noted that the knowledge of the use of matter is not enough; its righteous use should also be considered. The same criterion also applies to consciousness. In the absence of their righteous use, matter and consciousness are open to be abused. The attraction of immediate gains is such that its long-term effects are not appreciated and this shortsighted judgment prompts man to misuse power. Ultimately, he creates a web in which he gets trapped, just like a fish caught in a net. This results in suffering, public anger and self-destruction, and yet it is a practice generally adopted by most people. The society and the government rarely succeed in preventing such practices. Science can be legitimately credited for the current progress and prosperity, but it is incapable of differentiating between use and abuse. The only way to control its misuse is to incorporate wisdom based on foresightedness and the nobilities associated with human glory. This is the essence of spirituality. Spirituality means, “centered and established on the soul”, that is, activities in life are designed keeping the awakening of the soul as the aim. The soul is the individualized consciousness present in the human body. The dual accomplishment of the righteous use of science and the refinement of consciousness is possible only through spirituality. One of the aims of the Yug Nirman Yojana (Movement for the Reconstruction of the Era) of All World Gayatri Pariwar is to integrate science and spirituality. Extensive research on this topic is going on at Brahmavarchas Research Institute and Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya, Haridwar, India. The results of experiments show that spirituality has a sound scientific basis and spiritual principles practiced in daily life yield extraordinary benefits. Following are a few articles on Scientific Spirituality that have been published in ‘Akhand Jyoti (English)’, the bi-monthly magazine of All World Gayatri Pariwar. Revered Mataji, Mata Bhagawati Devi Sharma Born on September 1926, in a famous priestly family, Mata Bhagwati Devi (Vandaniya Mataji), was extraordinary in her own way and unlike other children, was not interested in regular childhood activities such as playing, etc. Instead, she was more interested in worshipping God. She spent most of her time in singing devotional songs. Her favorite pastime was to make the offering of the Bilva tree leaves at the idol of Lord Shiva, and writing “OM NAMAH SHIVAYA”. Born on September 1926, in a famous priestly family, Mata Bhagwati Devi (Vandaniya Mataji), was extraordinary in her own way and unlike other children, was not interested in regular childhood activities such as playing, etc. Instead, she was more interested in worshipping God. She spent most of her time in singing devotional songs. Her favorite pastime was to make the offering of the Bilva tree leaves at the idol of Lord Shiva, and writing “OM NAMAH SHIVAYA”. During the early stages of her education, she studied Bhagwat Gita, and Ram Charit Manas. After her marriage to Pt. Shriram Sharma Acharya (Gurudev), Mataji took over the responsibility of looking after visitors and guests. She willingly donated all her personal jewelry, which she received at her wedding, to Gurudev’s Yug Nirman Yojna (mission for creation of a new Era), for establishment of Gayatri Tapobhoomi at Mathura. This is the place where a grand 1008 kundiya Gayatri Mahayagna took place in 1958. Last Message-Rev. Mata Bhagwati Devi Sharma In 1960, when Gurudev went to the Himalayas, Mataji took over Gurudev’s responsibilities such as editing and publishing various magazines, administration of Gayatri Tapobhumi, and Yug Nirman Yojna, etc. When Gurudev returned, he declared celebration of Grand 1008 kundiya Gayatri Yagnas at Porbander in Gujarat, Baharaich in Uttar Pradesh, Mahasamund in Madhya Pradesh, Bhilwada in Rajasthan, and Tatanagar in Bihar. Mataji took an active role in all of these activities. At the same time, more than four thousand branches of Gayatri Pariwar, all over the country, were started. By then, Yug Nirman Yojna mission had spread all over India; and there was significant readership of various magazines of Mission. In 1975, under the leadership of Mataji, Mahila Jagran Abhiyan (movement for emancipation of women) was initiated. Soon, about 4000 branches of Mahila Jagran Abhiyan were established with more than one million active participants. Its work was not limited to mere Slogan-raising, but also women’s education, economic self-support, sacramental rites and acquiring self-respect, abolition of dowry and fight against the discrimination of women. Mataji considered everyone as part of her family. It was of prime importance to her, to arrange for their comfortable stay and spiritual guidance. It would not even come close if compared to all the comforts and luxuries that one would receive in a luxurious hotel. Such was the love and affection that people enjoyed from her. People do not come to Shantikunj as tourists, but come for recharging themselves and to experience the peace and tranquility in their personal lives. Mataji’s physical presence was, thus, very essential at Shantikunj. It was this consideration for the welfare of the Parijans that prevented her from leaving Shantikunj for more than 20 years. Occasionally, she used to go for evening walk with Gurudev to the bank of Holy river Ganges. When Gurudev took mahasamadhi on June 02, 1990, Gayatri Jayanti day, Mataji took over all the responsibilities of the mission and carried them over with great courage. In October 1990, under Mataji’s guidance, Grand Shraddhanjali Samaroh, a program to pay homage to Gurudev, was organized . Over 15,00,000 devotees from all over the world participated in it, and resolved to carry-on the works of Gurudev, for dissemination of philosophy of Gayatri and Yagna. In 1992, on Gayatri Jayanti Day, Mataji disclosed about Gurudev’s message from subtle and astral realms for the spread of Dev- Sanskriti (divine Indian culture or religious culture) all over the world for which series of Grand Ashwamedha Yagyas were to be performed. The series of Ashwamedha Yagnas started from Jaipur in Nov.1992. Till now, twenty-seven such grand Ashwamedha Yagnas have been celebrated in INDIA and abroads, besides the grand Anwalkheda (birthplace of Acharyaji near Agra, city of Taj) Pratham Poornahuti Samaroh in 1995. Mataji attended eighteen of them. It was for the first time that Mataji visited UK, Canada and USA in three Ashwamedh yagnas in Leicester-UK, Toronto – Canada and Los Angeles – USA. Mataji initiated millions of people into Gayatri Mantra and with this, a new wave of character-building and social reform started. Mataji too, withdrew to the astral realm, to join her aradhya satta there, on September 19, 1994, Bhadrapad Mahapoornima day. This was done so that both of them could work together, as collaborators of the immortal Rishis and sages of Himalayas, (who are the guides and Guardian Angles of the Soul of the Earth), for ushering in a new Era in the Twenty-first century.

All World Gayatri Pariwar is devoted to cultural, ethical, moral and spiritual awakening of the masses. Development of divinity in mankind is its foremost goal and avowed objective. To accomplish this goal it is working on the following seven programs. 1. Awakening Divinity Within Oneself Worshipping the deity of human life, and awakening the divinity within us through three-fold path of Upasana, Sadhana and Aradhana. The meanings of these three terms are explained as follows: Upasana means “sitting in the vicinity of divine virtues, divine thoughts”. This is practiced by: Worshiping God as per one’s faith Meditating and contemplating upon the eminent glow of divinity Reading and pondering over the thoughts and works of great personalities who lived with divine glory Sadhana is the spiritual endeavor of self-refinement. This requires: Observance of self-restraint Efforts for improvement in behavior, conduct Transaction of duties Sadhana can be practiced easily by adopting the sadhanas of aatm-bodh and tatva-bodh taught by Pandit Shriram Sharma Acharya (Gurudev). The sadhana of aatm-bodh is to be practiced only for 10 to 15 minutes every morning before leaving the bed, and the sadhana of tatva-bodh is to be practiced only for 10 to 15 minutes every night before going to sleep. Morning aatm-bodh sadhana is aimed at thinking and doing feasible planning of what is to be done, to become a better human in the hours to come. Evening tatva-bodh sadhana requires sincere self-analysis and pondering over the positive and negative actions during the day. These simple practices are powerful tools for uprooting evil traits from life and inculcating divine virtues within oneself. Aradhana means the service of the world, regarding it as the live manifestation, the beautiful creation of the Almighty. Donating some time, talents and material resources for altruistic services – especially for inspiring righteous thinking and awakening self-confidence in people – is an essential discipline to be followed by everyone associated with All World Gayatri Pariwar. Sanskars 2. Education The program for Education focuses on both Shikshaa and Vidyaa, i.e., ideal blending of moral refinement and intellectual development with school education. Gurudev, Pandit Shriram Sharma Acharya designed a new school-education syllabus, emphasizing the need of revising the existing system, to make it more rational, dynamic, relevant and useful in assuring a happy and bright future to the world. He also justified the importance of incorporating vidyaa in the updated system ofshikshaa, and gave practical guidance for doing so at the primary, secondary and higher levels of education. He devised specialized value-based syllabus for this purpose, to suit the gamut of students having different backgrounds and mental and intellectual levels. The primary and pre-secondary education offered in the school of All World Gayatri Pariwar at Shantikunj, Haridwar, sets a living example of how this syllabus can be successfully implemented with the innovative methods of teaching suggested by him. The special syllabus and mode of examination of Bhaartiya Sanskriti Gyaan Pareekshaa (An examination testing the knowledge of Indian Culture), organized by the mission in thousands of schools in India every year, has been very successful in creating cultural awareness, and clarifying the concept of vidyaa among children. The progress of any nation is dependent on the fully developed personality of its citizens, of which youth comprise a significant proportion. The personality of youth is highly influenced by education. However, worldwide, the current education system is not structured to develop the personality of students, and does not guide them towards a purposeful path of life, through which they can live happily and peacefully, as well as be competent enough to fight difficulties. In the olden times, universities such as Nalanda and Takshashila accomplished the task of guiding students in the right direction, by imparting spiritual knowledge on a practical basis, i.e. how ideals can be incorporated in personality considering the prevalent trends in the society. In the 21st century, All World Gayatri Pariwar has taken up this challenging task by establishing the Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya (Divine Culture University) – A University for the Cultural Renaissance of the World. You can read more about this University at DSVV 3. Health Ayurveda (The Ancient Indian Medical Science) is believed to be the oldest repository of diagnostic, pharmaceutical and therapeutic knowledge. This Vedic science draws upon an integral approach to healthcare by considering the physical, mental and deep emotional well being simultaneously. All World Gayatri Pariwar is conducting innovative research in Ayurveda, cultivation of Himalayan herbs and production of effective medicines. Various branches of western and alternative systems of medicines are also being synthesized here. Yagyopathy (Applications of Yagna for Healing) has been found very effective in the cure of both physical ailments and psychosomatic disorders like anxiety, depression, guilt, insomnia, etc. Yagna (A process of offering oblations to the sacred fire along with chanting of Mantras) renews the brain cells, revitalizes the skin, purifies the blood and prevents growth of pathogenic bacteria. Mental peace, emotional stability and creative development of the mind are the psychological benefits. Yagna is basically a healing process, as is clear from the following example. *Diabetic Treatment: The urine sugar level of some acute diabetic patients was found to be totally absent and the level of blood sugar was reduced to normal just after two to three weeks of daily agnihotra (Yagna) (From the book “The Integrated Science of Yagna”, compiled by Dr. R. R. Joshi, Publisher – Yug Nirman Yojna, Mathura, 1999). 4. Self-reliance The one year swaavalamban vidyaa (self-reliance) course and training programs of self-reliant and moral education with spiritual refinement, offered by All World gayatri Pariwar at Gayatri Tapobhumi, Mathura, have been very successful in generating dedicated, disciplined and talented batches of young men and women, who are committed to altruist service for cultural elevation and global welfare. The well educated but unemployed youths, rather than suffering depression, and waiting for the government and other bodies for help, may also get new guidance from this kind of self-reliant vidyaa. Self-reliant development of rural India through Adarsh Gram Teerth Yojna (Movement for the creation of ideal villages): Special shramdaan (collective labor) programs are organized by All World Gayatri Pariwar in rural parts of India – including the tribal bases in the interior – for ‘teaching by doing’. Programs like health and hygiene, literacy and reformative activities, and encouraging participation of villagers, are emphasized. Community services are also conducted through social functions, and mass participation in agricultural and small scale industry based developmental programs. Special emphasis is given to the use of cattle based resources and other local resources. 5. Women Empowerment and Awakening Naari Jaagaran Abhiyaan (Women Awakening Movement) has been an integral part of the social reconstruction program of All World Gayatri Pariwar. Most remarkable has been its initiatives to revive the glory of women from the religious platform. In the Hindu society, where since the medieval times women were kept behind the veil, and were not supposed to chant Vedic mantras, we can now see hundreds of women priests chanting Vedic mantras, conducting all kinds of Vedic religious rituals, and guiding thousands of men and women. Not only that, they are leading many of the social reformative activities of the Pariwar. Groups of women (Brahmvaadini Tolis) go to different parts of the country and organize special 3-4 days social awareness programs for uplifting women’s condition. Women’s education and cultural ascent are given impetus under this movement, so that the better half of the human society can play its role more efficiently and effectively. Several self-employment schemes under the self-reliance development programs of All World Gayatri Pariwar are women-oriented. 6. Protection of Environment The huge industrial complexes, rapid urbanization, deforestation, air and water pollution, ozone-depletion, radioactive wastes etc., have disturbed and destabilized the natural harmony of human, animal and plant life cycles. The ecological imbalance caused by these criminal acts of the so called ‘civilized man’ has resulted in a disastrous threat, not only to the human survival, but also to life as a whole on our planet. Yagna has been found to be a viable cure for the ecological imbalance. Experimental studies have shown that yagna or agnihotra creates a pure, hygienic, nutritional and healing atmosphere. Researchers from the field of microbiology have observed that the medicinal fumes emanating from the process of agnihotra are bacteriostatic in nature, i.e. they eradicate bacteria and micro-organisms, which are the root causes of illness and diseases. The following quotes by renowned scientists are noteworthy: “Burning sugar and its smoke has a significant effect in purifying the atmosphere. It kills the germs of T.B., measles, smallpox and cow-pox” – remarks Prof. Tilward. A Russian Scientist named Dr. Shirowich mentions – “if cow’s ghee is put into the fire, its smoke will lessen the effect of atomic radiation to a great extent”. The following example further illustrates the capability of yagna in fighting environmental pollution. Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh, India) Gas Tragedy and Agnihotra The tragic incident occurred on the night of December 3, 1984 when the poisonous MIC gas leaked from Union Carbide factory at Bhopal. Hundreds of people died and thousands were hospitalized, but there were two families – those of Shri Sohan Lal S. Khushwaha and Shri M. L. Rathore, living about one mile away from the plant, who came out unscathed. These families were regularly performing agnihotra (havan). In these families nobody died, nobody was even hospitalized despite being present in the area worst affected by the leakage of the toxic gas. This observation implies that agnihotra is a proven antidote to pollution. (English Daily – “The Hindu” of 4th May 1985; news item under the heading ‘Vedic Way to Beat Pollution’.) Everyone is aware of the disasters of deforestation. The only solution to this crisis is to create an awareness and enthusiasm in the people to plant more and more trees. All World Gayatri Pariwar is running programs for planting trees in several districts of India. 7. Deliverance from Addictions & Eradication of Evil Customs Under the reformative projects of Yug Nirman Yojana (Movement for the Reconstruction of the Era), All World Gayatri Pariwar has successfully worked in many parts of India towards eradication of blind faith, religious fundamentalism, addictions, insane customs like dowry, expensive marriages and funeral rites, etc. Mass awareness about these problems is created by the organization of large-scale deep (lamp) yagnas, religious functions and Pragya Puran Kathas (Narrations of the scripture – Pragya Puran). All World Gayatri Pariwar’s programs for Psycho-Social Engineering include: Transformation of Personality through special educational and Sadhana Satras (sessions). Activities of National Reconstruction: Eradication of Blind Faith, Ignorance and Illiteracy. Three months Yug Shilpi Satras (sessions for training Yug Shilpis, i.e. the persons who are capable of reconstructing the Era): Practical training for grass-root work in the rural areas, and for psychological and educational uplifting of the masses. Following is an example of relief from Drug Addictions through agnihotra: An officer, 25 years in age, who had been a poly drug abuser in the past, was selected for the study by Lt. Col. G. R. Golecha, a senior advisor in the psychiatry division of the Indian army. The patient was at that time addicted to heroin for 2 years. He had undergone some de-addiction courses, twice in the past, with no benefit, and had become de-motivated and resistant to such methods. He was then introduced toagnihotra. The practice of agnihotra resulted in improving his motivation to abstain from smack, and showed significant decrease in his urge for it within a few weeks. Conduction of marriages without any dowry, constraints of caste or community, and expensive celebrations has been a remarkable social reformative activity of All World Gayatri Pariwar. On an average, the marriages performed under this noble drive have saved Rs. 5 billion of the Indian society since the past decade. As per the records up to the year 2000, 1691 ideal marriages were performed in Shantikunj, Haridwar 700 during various Ashwamedha Yagnas, 108 in the Shraddhaanjali Samaaroha (Program organized to pay homage to Gurudev); and 400 in the world-wide Sanskaar Mahotsavas (Programs where various sacramental rites and ceremonies are performed for inculcating divinity in oneself). The number of such marriages performed in the Shaktipithas (Centers of All World Gayatri Pariwar at various places) is around 10 thousand per year.

Indian Culture is founded on the principles of Gayatri (the protector of vital life force, praana, and the Goddess of wisdom and pure intelligence) and Yagna (oblations made to the holy fire symbolizing noble deeds). Gayatri is revered as the mother and Yajna the father of Indian Culture. Gayatri – The Protector of Praana (vital life force) The scripture Aitareya Brahmana defines Gayatri as gayan praanan trayate sa Gayatri, meaning, “That which protects praana is Gayatri”. Praana means the source of liveliness, consciousness and vitality Presence of praana keeps us alive. A person having insufficient praana becomes weak, helpless, powerless and depressed. A person full of praana is enthusiastic, determined, courageous, patient and hopeful. Worshipping Gayatri preserves and enhances praana in a person. Gayatri – The Goddess of Wisdom and Pure Intelligence According to Adya Shankaracharya, giyate tatvamanaya gayatriti, meaning, “That (righteous intellect – ritumbharaa pragnaa) through which the Supreme Being (God) can be known is Gayatri”. Ritumbharaa pragnaa enables us to discriminate between truth and false, fame and notoriety, good and bad, and right and wrong. The decision-making ability conferred by ritumbharaa pragnaa is based on divine inspiration. In its absence, a person cannot experience true happiness even though he may be intelligent, clever, wealthy, talented, etc. These qualities help him in accumulating materialistic wealth and power, but they also bring with them tension, fear, doubts, greed, moha (attachment towards worldly objects and people), bad habits, etc. Gayatri inspires the brain to remain saturated with divine, virtuous (satoguni) qualities, which in turn inspire a person onto the path of true well-being. Cultivating noble thoughts and practicing righteous deeds safeguard and increase the person’s strength. Yagna In its gross form, Yagna is a spiritual experiment of sacrificing and sublimating the havana saamagri(herbal preparations) in the fire accompanied by the chanting of Vedic mantras. This is only the outer physical process or ritual of Yagna, which has scientific importance and beneficial effects. This agni-yagnawhen performed on a small scale is also known as havan, homam or agnihotra. The meaning of Yagna is not confined to this sacrificial ritual. It has a much wider and deeper meaning. The word Yagna is derived from the Sanskrit verb yaj, which has a three-fold meaning: worship of deities (deva-pujana), unity (sangatikarana) and charity (daana). The philosophy of Yagna teaches a way of living in the society in harmony and a lifestyle which promotes and protects higher human values in the society, which is indeed the basis of an ideal human culture. Scientific Aspects of Yagna The effects of Yagna include treatment of various diseases and the removal of atmospheric pollution. Another prominent effect is parjanya (sublime showers of vital energy and spiritual strength from the upper cosmic planes). The four Vedas signify the philosophy of the eternity and complementarity of Gayatri and Yagna in the divine creations. The Atharvaveda deals with the sound therapy aspects of Mantras. They can be used for the treatment of the ailing human system at the physical, psychological and spiritual levels. The Samaveda focuses on the musical chanting patterns of Mantras, and the subtle form of Yagna. It defines Yagna as the process of mental oblation on the surface of internal emotions, through the cosmic radiations of the omnipresent subtle energy of sound. The Yajurveda contains the principles and the methods of performingYagnas as a part of the spiritual and scientific experiments for global welfare. A Russian Scientist named Dr. Shirowich mentions – “if cow’s ghee is put into the fire, its smoke will lessen the effect of atomic radiation to a great extent”. The following example further illustrates the scientific benefits of Yagna. Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh, India) Gas Tragedy and Agnihotra The tragic incident occurred on the night of December 3, 1984 when the poisonous MIC gas leaked from Union Carbide factory at Bhopal. Young couples pray for unbroken companionship, amity and fidelity worth commendation. Just in front of these tiny temples, are the sacred tombs of the departed Rishiyugm made of sparkling granite stone, which draw enormous reverence from the people and are fully charged with celestial life consciousness. Akhand Deep Most pious “Akhand Deep” (lamp) ignited by the YugRishi, as back as in 1926 is still lighting. In its proximity he conducted 24 gigantic Purashcharans of 2.4 million recitations of Gayatri Mantra each, in 24 years. On their completion, 1008 Kundi (altar) Grand GayatriMahayagya was performed in 1958, which resulted in the attainment of immense super-natural power by him and benefited millions of other people. Akhand Deep is still-incessantly wiping out the gloom. Mere sight of this Akhand Deep alleviates sorrows and sufferings and delivers divine grants. Thousands of men, women and children daily throng for itsDarshan (glimpse). Splendid Yagyashala (place where Yagna is done) Owing to enormous increase of visitors, Shantikunj Ashram has also made tremendous expansion during the last one decade to accommodate the visitors. Many new buildings have been constructed. Three splendid canopies for performing Yagna have been constructed, which present a memorable sight in the morning hours, when thousands of devotees clad in saffron colour clothes perform Yagna in the blazing flame with chanting of Mantras and seek inspiration from Yagna for making sacrifice for welfare of all living beings on Earth. All the Sanskars are also performed, free of cost, in the morning time in various canopies and buildings for refinement of personality. Devatma Himalaya It is a live monument of pilgrimage centers of the sacred Himalaya, where ancient Rishi’s (saints) lived and performed their penance.
